“oh c’mon that’s a generalization that the mmo’s fanbase is a bunch of trolls
I’ve played in long run mmos such as guild wars and it had a fantastic fanbase or at least I never seen anyone teabag anyone in PvP, sometimes the occasional silliness and funny shit or some assholes? Ya but because there wasn’t any RP dedicated servers, let’s say for example SWTOR, it has RP servers who have a different kind of moderation I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY TROLLS. Never, ever. I’ve seen huge RP parties raiding areas and no one interferes, no one says anything, everyone is respectful.
I agree the elder scrolls mmo makes go ‘NO NONO NO’ because they have no experience in that field so it will probably be… ya PRETTY BAD. But still the mmo’s fanbase is not generally as bad as perceived from people who don’t play them or had occasional bad experiences, mmos =/= online FPS.”
OK first of all, the game is in development by a seasoned MMO veteran and Zenimax, it has nothing to do with what Bethesda supposedly knows or doesn’t know about the MMO fan base.
Also, I want some of whatever you’re smoking, ‘cause your little anecdote about how MMOs totally aren’t full of trolls has to be drug induced. I genuinely wished my reality reflected yours.

Diary of a Mad Spaniard: Two Things
One, yes I know the Elder Scrolls MMO was just announced. Could not give a shit less.
Second, yes I also know the Dawnguard DLC was revealed. And it’s Xbox 360 exclusive for awhile. So, on that I could not give a shit less right now either.
why does everyone think an elder scrolls MMO will be awesome? i’ve been thinking about this since morrowind, and honestly it sounds like the worst idea ever.
let us take one of the best fantasy worlds ever created in a video game, one of the few worlds offering 100% immersion, then let us make it larger and more expansive and add a bunch of end-game content. sounds awesome right? until you are riding your horse through the colovian highlands when you get ganked by a 15 year old, who then proceeds to emote teabagging you, calls you a fag, and then hops off on his merry way.
let me rephrase: people on the internet are assholes. mmorpgs have plenty of cool players(debatable), but they also ALL HAVE TROLLS. there are entire guilds in most MMOs whose sole purpose is to go around giving everyone else a hard time and trying to ruin your fun. certainly, let us invite those people to join us in tamriel. definitely not a BAD idea…
so if you wanna play an elder scrolls game where you can get, ganked, griefed, trolled, spammed, and even get your account stolen and all your stuff you worked so hard on taken away from you, go right ahead. don’t bitch about it when the game doesn’t live up to your expectations and pales in comparison to the rest of the franchise.
also:making an MMO out of it can most assuredly guarantee that they quality and frequency with which they come out with solo elder scrolls games will drastically decline as bethesda sinks more and more money into the cash cow and eventually end up like blizzard with warcraft.
when did the last NON-MMO warcraft game come out? 2000? 2001?
making an elder scrolls mmo is NOT a good idea if you are a fan of the series. it is a good idea if you are bethesda and want to make lots of money.
put some thought and experience toward things instead of just assuming it will be awesome because you imagine it to be. of all the mmos that get released, how many are successful? how many have a good player base? how many last even 2 years before dying off mostly?
i propose an infinitely better idea. give elder scrolls games co-op multiplayer. imagine if you will, being able to play skyrim with a couple(or even just one) of your good friends. yourself and your best friend who both play skyrim every day can now play in the same world. you can run quests together, progress in the storyline, all of it. you don’t need to make a game an MMO in order for it to have amazing multiplayer experiences. i’ve been talking with friends for years about how all they need to do is make online co-op a possibility. no random people you don’t know, no camping for creature spawns, no trolls, just you and a few friends wandering through the reach fighting off(or joining) the forsworn. doesn’t that sound better than the MMO alternative?
REPOSTED FOR TRUTH. This captures so much of what bothers me about an Elder Scrolls MMO. Not to mention, I play Bethesda games for the sense of isolation and immersion. No better way to destroy that then to expect me to play with other people.
Whilst I agree with most of this, can I just add:
Bethesda Game Studios ≠ Zenimax Online Studios
Oh give me a fucking break. Bethesda is publishing it, they’re in charge of the direction it goes. OMG LOOK AT ME BEING PEDANTIC I KNOW SHIT ABOUT VIDYA GAYMES

It needs a lot of support right now, crazy people in the comments are being a bunch of ass goblins.
Also it should be noted that I tested the mod while using the mod that turns your Mammoths into Giant Chickens, so those dick arrows are a lot bigger than they initially appear.
Also, the arrows don’t actually explode. Disappoint.
Today I tested out an exploding dick arrows mod that a Destructoid reader made.
Yes.
This is how I spent my morning.
Ah, memories. I was rifling through my business cards (a pre-convention ritual so I can get back in touch with certain people for appointments and interviews) and came across these! The business card is from E3 2011, the tear off ticket I believe from PAX Prime. The keychain I threw in for nostalgia’s stake (ffs it needs a bath. Or at least a clean skin retexture mod eh?)
I almost miss the pre-Skyrim hype. It was fun. See you guys at PAX East?
